terratalent Delegation Trip 2024: Exploring Skilled Professionals in Kigali

With terratalent, our goal is to support companies, cities, and associations looking to recruit skilled professionals from abroad. Our approach involves building networks with local institutions such as universities, vocational and technical institutes, or coding schools, especially in regions where there is a pool of well-trained professionals, such as Turkey, Jordan (through the German-Jordanian University), India, and Africa.

Rwanda as a Focus Country for Economic Growth and Digital Expertise

In Africa, Rwanda often takes the spotlight when it comes to economic growth, the digital economy, and training skilled professionals. The partnership between Rwanda’s tourism board and Bayern Munich has further enhanced the country’s visibility. Recently, the Mainz-based company, Biontech, announced its plans to open a production facility (as reported by ZDF News).

Details of the Delegation Trip: Program and Objectives

We are planning a delegation trip to Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, from February 18th to February 24th. This trip is in collaboration with the supported network project, Africa Berlin Tech Network from Berlin. The trip will consist of two parts. First and foremost, we will have meetings with companies and institutions that have already established business relationships between Germany and Rwanda, discussing opportunities for cooperation and market entry. These primarily include companies with an IT background. In the second part, we will focus on local educational institutions to gain a deeper understanding of the skilled professionals being trained locally, their qualification levels, and whether these professionals have an interest in working in Germany. This also includes engaging with local students.

From our previous visits, we know there is interest, but there are also questions about the necessity of German language skills, cultural conditions, and more. Our experience tells us that one must be on-site to witness the entrepreneurial spirit and the actual extent of the skilled workforce’s potential. With Terratalent, we aim to assist companies, cities, and associations in Germany in harnessing this potential and building relevant bridges. On January 18th, we will host a webinar to discuss the opportunities and the specifics of the trip.

Preparation and Participation

Please note that all flights and accommodations must be booked independently, and the costs are entirely the responsibility of the participants. We will collect a small contribution per person for meals and local transfers (details are still pending). We have attached an initial program draft and some facts about Rwanda for your reference.
